Alrighty then – so here is a video on how I organize my own genealogy. This video was created to show you my method and the importance of finding a method that works for you. Remember – that with organizing information – it has to be organized in a way that works for you. Sometimes not one specific way will work for you. Hope you enjoy! And as always – I LOVE the comments you guys leave me. Thank you so much!
I agree- it is impossible to categorise EVERY genealogical piece of paper- you do need a misc file.
Hey, i love your videos and they are very helpful. I was having some trouble organizing all of my genealogy. I was having problems organizing just like you do. Could you help? Thanks
Great job on this video! You and I actually use very similar systems in terms of color coding — Blue is my paternal grandfathers family; Maroon is my paternal grandmother; Green is my maternal grandfather and orange is my maternal grandmother.
Where do you live? I only ask because you and I are about the same age (I think; I’m 26) and it’s nice to get in touch with people who are around my age and seriously interested in genealogy. Look forward to hearing from you!
wow i started when im 15 and im 16 now…Never met anyone close to my age before that does genealogy. How old are you anyways?
You are so young, yet so wise! This video is great… Looking forward to watching the rest of your videos. Good luck finding all your roots! Thanks!!
I’ve been doing genealogy for over 20 years and I learned some things by watching your video. My favorite tip was to color code the file folders based on parental lineage. Great job, thank you so much for sharing. This video should be number 1 on youtube!
Thank you! Keep checking back become I am hoping to make another video in the next week or two that shows how I’ve updated my organization system. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Thanks. My Aunt is the one who got me interested in genealogy – and long story short I’ve been bitten by the genealogy bug ever since.
Congrats on getting another binder! By the way – be careful on the e-files, make sure that you update them a bunch, back everything up, and that other family members know how to access the information (I know it sounds morbid, but we won’t be around forever and we want our descendants to be able to discover our research)
Enjoyed your presentation very much. I think you hit the nail on the head with your advise about using a system that works for you — that it has to be an organizational method you will use! Great job!
I’m off to set up some file folders!
GREAT video! It’s nice to see a young person interested in genealogy. What or who got you started? I wish my filing cabinet was that organized.
( And yes, I just said today that I needed another binder. It will make binder number 5. I’m slowly moving towards e-files. The binders are beginning to be a hassle. Thanks for the video.
hi, this is superb stuff. Great to see how other people do their filing systems – there’s always ways to improve it, so thanks for the tips
It’s always interesting to see how other researchers are managing their genealogy data so thankyou for sharing! Big thumbs up from me!
Thanks so much!!
Great videos! Keep it up!
